DAVENPORT, Iowa — Hunter Caves (Alburnett, Iowa/Alburnett) led a scorching night from 3-point range for the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team in a 101-75 victory at St. Ambrose JV on Tuesday night.
Caves hit six of the Chargers’ 19 triples in the contest and scored a game-high 23 points as Sandburg (6-2) won its third straight contest. The 23 points were a season-high for the freshman guard.
Three other Chargers reached double figures in scoring. Connor Barnett (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) scored 13 points, Atem Agot (East Moline, Ill./United Township) added 12 and Romeo Metcalf (Davenport, Iowa/Davenport West) had 10 points while playing in his hometown.
Nine of the 12 players who suited up for Sandburg had at least one trey, and the Chargers knocked down 11 first-half 3s in taking a 63-40 lead into the break.
